Frederiksværk, Denmark – June 22, 2024: Shobu Ippon Denmark took a major step today towards ensuring a well-trained and competent officiating team for the upcoming Nordic Open, which will be held in Denmark on September 21. A referee seminar, attracting 19 referees from various Shotokan organizations, was held at Taifu Dojo in Frederiksværk led by experienced international top referee Milan Holck Nielsen sensei.

Focus on ESKA Ruleset

Today’s referee seminar was based on the Ippon Shobu ruleset used by ESKA, which the Nordic countries have agreed to apply to the Nordic Open. Milan sensei, with his extensive experience from WKF and SKIF, ensured that the participants were updated on the latest rules and guidelines for Ippon Shobu karate.

The referee seminar was part of Shobu Ippon Denmark’s preparation for the Nordic Open and served as an important platform to prepare and develop the officiating team. Milan sensei, with his extensive experience from WKF and SKIF, shared his knowledge and expertise with the participants, helping to strengthen their abilities in kata and kumite judging.

A Successful Day with a Focus on Learning

The day began with a welcome and theory session, followed by exercises in gesturing and kata and kumite judging in the dojo. Participants received ongoing feedback from Milan sensei and the other experienced referees, and the day concluded with dilemma exercises that challenged the referees’ ability to make quick and accurate decisions under unforeseen circumstances in a match.

Evaluation and Positive Feedback

The evaluation of the referee seminar was overwhelmingly positive. Participants expressed great satisfaction with the content and structure of the day, particularly highlighting Milan sensei’s expertise and the relaxed atmosphere that created an optimal learning environment.

Shobu Ippon Denmark continues its efforts to ensure a well-trained officiating team for the Nordic Open with another referee seminar planned for August. This seminar will further strengthen the referees’ skills and prepare them for the challenges they may encounter during the tournament.
