English Seminarer — 5. juli 2011

Friday 1st of July 2011 I got the chance to participate in a Shotokan seminar in Alexandroupolis, Greece.
Instructors:
Guest instructor: Sensei Tsavdaris A. Sofoklis
Dojo instructor: Sensei Verikoukis M. Dimitris.
Doctor: Michail A. Karanikas

Guest instructor: Sensei Tsavdaris A. Sofoklis andDojo instructor: Sensei Verikoukis M. Dimitris.

Seminar participators

The seminar was the first held in a newly opened dojo in Alexandroupolis. The dojo opened in the beginning of 2011 and most of the members were beginners.
The seminar focused on traditional karate, sports karate and first aid. During the years, I have been participating in many seminars, but this was the first that offered first aid. A very good idea, especially because 90% of the participants were white belts who had never tried first aid before. Personally I got the chance to refresh my first aid knowledge.
Sensei Tsavdaris emphasized the importance of using the hip and the body while doing punches, blocks and kicks, to improve your power. During the seminar we did some speed drills, kumite exercises and basics.
The seminar lasted 3½ hours and ended with a belt test for 6 members. They all did a very good examination and they all passed .

Training for the hips and rotation of the body

I usually train Isshinryu karate and of course this meant that there were some differences in the basics.
I enjoyed the seminar and was happy for the guys who got promoted.
I like to thank Sensei Tsavdaris and Sensei Verikoukis for an exciting seminar.
